It is hard being on the road over 200 nights a year...away from your family, isolated in many ways. It definitely isn't for everyone. This blogs represents the thoughts of just one such person. Read along and find out if the road is for you.

That would be whoops!
The link to the Monday Mission was incorrect. I guess it was just too early :)
Anyway, it is now fixed. Have a Merry Merry!

The land of nuts and berries! Another Monday Mission is in the books!
I am back in California for the holidays. Julie and I are in the Huntington Beach area to spend the holiday with my Dad and his wife Sylvia. Now that we are here, it is great. Just hanging out and truly relaxing.
This last week has been anything but relaxing.
My time in New Orleans was quick. Almost too quick! I didn’t really get out like I wanted to, because I rationalized that I would be back on January 2 of the New Year and could find my way around then.
Thursday was spent literally from morning till night shopping. A new Cabbage Patch doll for my Dad’s wife, gifts for Julie, shopping for our good friend Jere’ (pronounced Je ray) and helping out the church board by buying the gift for the minister (Obviously, I have the time that they don’t). But through it all, I got it done and then some, so there could be something in the mail for you too.
I went to sleep on Thursday thinking/wondering how Friday would turn out. This customer has wanted to hire me and has recently gone through a crisis that would leave an opening for me to jump into.
And here it is on Monday, and I am still not sure what their thoughts/desires are in terms of my employment there. The fact of the matter is that we were so busy handling a variety of subjects that we never really got a chance to seriously discuss the issue.
Saturday was another day of Christmas blessings for me. A friend from church has had a rather rough year. They have lost their house, jobs and almost everything else. They are on the upswing now, but are still in the process of catching up. So, when the opportunity came up that a few of us could provide a good Christmas dinner and more, we took up the challenge. I was feeling especially generous and chipped in a $100 bill in a card for them. Just seeing their face made Christmas come right there in that moment. It was awesome.
We also bought some new luggage that Julie had been wanting. You would think that as much as I travel that I would want some really good luggage. But that has never been of interest to me. It is to Julie and we now have matching set that has a tapestry covering. I on the other hand will continue to use my $15 specials that usually give you about 100,000 air miles of use (about a year or so). I can buy 30 of my specials to cover the cost of this luggage. Oh well, if that is what makes you happy.
Didn’t get to sleep until after midnight and had to get up at 4:30 to catch a flight from Atlanta to Orange County. Needless to say, it was a long day, although the first class seats did take some of the sting out of the trip.
It has been great to see and spend some time with my Dad. I will get to see some of my cousins/aunts/uncles as the week progresses.
