Vacation – The Word is a Sweet Sound 1 Ago

Vacation…that word elicits a lot of words, feelings and emotions. None of them bad though. It is finally here! And like all of my vacations, I am really ready for it.

Perhaps I wait too long between them, because the month before them, I can be a bit cranky. And this past month or so, I have been even more so.

I used to be proud of the fact that I didn’t feel I needed vacation, but rather just took them. I would go several years between vacations. Over the last ten years however, Julie has shown me the error of my ways. Now vacation isn’t just something to look forward to, it is necessary. I now understand the European countries have a better of the benefits of vacation or “holiday” as they call it then we in America have. I have found it is my opportunity to let not just my body rest, but my mind as well.

This vacation looks to be a little different. The last few times I have left for (I never seem to stay home and just veg out) vacation, I have had a “party” mentality. This time, I want to enjoy my time, relax and hang out. If I end up partying hard, that will be fine, but not the objective.

Overall, I am a bit exhausted. Instead of flying home from Birmingham, the rain caused flight delays and I ended up driving the rental car back to the airport and then took a shuttle home. That in and of itself is no big deal. But just like everyone else, I spend the last day trying to finish up outstanding issues with my clients. I started at 6:30 AM dialing into some of my customer’s systems to find and correct issues that they have called me about over the last couple of days.

Speaking of work, I am more than a little worried about Lynette. She has serious misgivings about having left Da Company and as such, has developed a major case of fear. She has asked to come back. I am not sure of Da Company’s position on the issue. I will continue to pray for her.

On the lighter side, I had a long conversation with Rebecca on my drive home the other night. She is a good soul to talk to from time to time. And just listening to her, you can actually hear the half smile and half giggle in her voice. I really hadn’t spoke with her since July, so her voice was a welcome respite from the drive home in the rain.

Time to head to my home away from home, Atlanta’s Hartsfield International and hop a flight to Miami. I will spend the night there before heading out to Puerto Rico in the morning.
